Kangan, Aug 15: An intense spell of rain on Thursday triggered flash floods in some areas of Kangan and Gund in Ganderbal district.
Locals said that the heavy showers caused flash floods in Hassanabad and adjoining areas besides caused waterlogging in main market Kangan. They said that the water entered several residential houses and also damaged agricultural fields and crops. Locals said that the failed drainage system resulted in the flash floods in the areas, adding that this has become a routine now that whenever there is rainfall the area is flooded.
The locals as well as shopkeepers in main market Kangan urged the administration to improve the drainage system and take measures to prevent such incidents.
Reports said that a cloud burst in upper reaches caused a flood like situation in Arigoripora , Kachnambal areas in Kangan due to which water supply and roads got damaged. The water entered residential houses causing damage to them. In Kichpara the heavy flow of water damaged a portion of the bridge disrupting the traffic moment which was later restored by the BRO.
Similarly, in Rayil, Kullan, Rezan , Wangath and other areas also witnessed flash floods after the heavy showers . MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali visited some affected areas to assess the situation and assured all possible help.
The administration have issued an advisory for general public asking them to remain alert and avoid venturing in higher areas. Ganderbal police also issued a helpline for the assistance in case of any emergency due to bad weather.
