According to the SP, acting on specific intelligence, a police team set up a checkpoint at Sikandarpur Kothey — an area known for drug smuggling. During the operation, a car was stopped and searched. Police recovered 283 grams of heroin (also known as chitta), ₹20.02 lakh in cash, and seized a Swift car (registration number JK02BB-9853).
The two arrested men have been identified as Sadiq Ali alias Jattu, a resident of Handey Chal in Kathua district, and his father-in-law Saif Ali alias Safu, from Sikandarpur Kothey, Bishnah.
Police believe the arrest will help expose a larger drug supply chain in the region.
An FIR (Number 69/2025) has been registered under strict sections of the NDPS Act, including 8, 21, 22, 25, 27-A, and 29, at Police Station Bishnah.
The operation was led by SDPO Gurmeet Singh and SHO Sushil Choudhary, with support from PSIs Darshan Singh and Purshotam Kumar, under the supervision of SP Irshad Hussain Rather.
Police have now launched a full investigation to track where the drugs came from and where they were going. Financial experts are also tracing the money trail to identify others involved in this illegal drug network.
