SRINAGAR: Incarcerated Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid on Sunday urged people in Jammu and Kashmir to maintain peace and restraint during the holy month of Ramzan and appealed to authorities to release mourners detained during recent protests in the Valley.
In a message to the public, Rashid extended Ramzan greetings and prayed for peace, harmony and well-being across the region.
His appeal comes amid protests in parts of Kashmir following the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, during which several mourners were detained by authorities.
Rashid said many people had taken to the streets to express grief over the development but expressed concern over incidents of violence reported during the demonstrations.
He said violence has no place in a civilised society, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, which has witnessed decades of conflict and suffering. Urging people to remain calm during the sacred month, he said the region understands the heavy cost of violence and instability.
The Baramulla MP also appealed to the administration to release those detained during the protests, saying such a step during Ramzan could promote goodwill and help ease tensions in the Valley.
Highlighting the significance of the holy month, Rashid said Ramzan teaches patience, tolerance and compassion, and urged people to uphold these values while working towards peace and harmony.
Recently, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir detained dozens of people and launched a crackdown following protests over the reported killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an Israel–US attack.
