Engineers’ Bodies Welcome HUDD Reorganisation in Jammu Kashmir | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) of Engineers welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir government’s reorganisation of the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD), terming it a timely step to strengthen engineering manpower and improve public service delivery.

The JCC, which comprises the JK Civil Engineers Graduates Association (JKCEGA) and the JK Mechanical Engineers Graduates Association (JKMEGA), expressed gratitude for Government Order No. 29-HUD of 2026, issued on February 5, 2026, which provides for the reorganisation of the department.

In a statement, the Committee thanked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atul Dulloo, and Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Mandeep Kaur, for what it described as recognising the need to rationalise cadre structures and enhance sanctioned engineering strength.

The JCC said the reorganisation would help address growing technical demands in urban planning, infrastructure development and sustainable growth across the Union Territory.

JKCEGA President Farooq Ahmad Ganie said the decision fulfils a long-pending demand of the engineering fraternity, particularly in view of the increasing requirement for technical interventions in urban development. JKMEGA President Firdous Ahad Bhat highlighted the importance of mechanical engineering in a mechanised work environment and called for similar cadre strengthening in other departments, including the Jal Shakti Department.

The Committee reiterated that engineers in Jammu and Kashmir remain committed to contributing to the overall development of the Union Territory and to delivering services with professionalism and integrity.
