Eleven-Brothers Kupwara clinch NKPL 5th edition title

Baramulla, Dec 14: Eleven-Brothers Kupwara emerged champions of the 5th edition of the North Kashmir Premier League (NKPL) after defeating Victoria Baramulla in a pulsating final at the General Bipin Rawat Stadium, Baramulla, on Sunday.

While batting first, the Eleven-Brothers Kupwara set a target of 153 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 19.1 overs out of the allotted 20 overs.

While chasing the target, Victoria Baramulla lost its four wickets in the early overs. However, the middle-order batsmen showcased their skills and carried the match till the last ball of the 20th over.

The match kept the audience glued to their chairs during the last spell of the match.

Eleven Brother Kupwara succeeded in taking wickets, which kept Victoria Baramulla under pressure. But the match took a U-turn during the last three overs.

Victoria Baramulla had to score 30 runs in the last three overs, but the opponent team lost the match by three runs as the opponent team claimed two wickets in the last over.

The Victoria Baramulla was all out on 149 runs for the loss of 10 wickets and lost the match by four runs.

The 5th edition of the NKPL was organised by the Baramulla Cricket Forum (BCF), and during the post-match presentation, Sheikh Junaid of Eleven-Brothers Kupwara was adjudged as man of the tournament and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 15000, while Amir (Lefty) of the winning team was adjudged as Man of the Match and was handed over a cash prize of Rs 2000.

The runner-up team was given a cash prize of Rs 70000 and a trophy, while the winning team was handed over the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1.10 lakh.

Commander of the Artillery Brigade Baramulla, Brigadier Rohit Singh, was the chief guest at the occasion, who felicitated the runners-up team and the winning team with cash prizes and the trophies.

As many as 52 teams participated in the 5th edition of NKPL. This year BCF organised five major tournaments, and around 275 matches were played throughout the season.
