SRINAGAR: Eight persons were injured after a speeding truck rammed into a passenger auto near the Okey area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam on Wednesday evening.

An official said that the accident took place around 8:00 PM when an auto (JK18-1972), driven by Mohammad Zulfkar Sheikh of Khokherhama, was on its way from Kulgam to Mahipora. A truck coming from the opposite direction reportedly collided with the vehicle with force.

In the incident, eight persons, including the driver, sustained injuries. The injured have been identified as Rukeya of Gadihama, Meema of Mahipora, Kulsuma Bano of Mahipora, Manzoor Ahmad Mir of Mahipora, Reyaz Ahmad of Gadihama, Mohammad Zulfkar Sheikh (driver) of Khokherhama, Nazir Ahmad Mir of Mahipora, and Shahena Bano of Mahipora.

All the injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, where their condition is stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, the truck driver fled from the spot after the accident, and police have taken cognizance of the incident. (KNC)
