SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Saturday said the National Conference (NC) would secure both seats in the upcoming polls if “vote chori” (vote theft) does not take place, emphasising that the Jammu Kashmir government is focused on delivery rather than self-praise.

During a visit to the Nowgam Flyover and Pirpagh–Rangreth link road, Choudhary reviewed ongoing developmental projects and directed officials and contractors to ensure completion by November 15

Speaking to reporters at the site, he said, “Our government is committed to its word and will not indulge in empty praise. We won’t become ‘miya mithu’—the work will speak for itself.”

Addressing political criticism, Choudhary asserted that the people of Naushera have already made their choice at the ballot box. “Whether I am right or wrong will be judged by them. If someone in a high office cannot work for Naushera, they should at least try. I am trying to deliver, while some are attempting to halt progress. If doing work is a crime, I will keep committing it,” he said.

On the issue of Srinagar’s traffic, the Deputy CM said new projects are under consideration. “Until a project is approved, I cannot promise anything. Once decisions are taken and projects cleared, we will share the details,” he added.

Choudhary issued a stern warning against corruption in public works. “Whether an officer is posted in Naushera or elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir, if there is tampering in tendering or wrongful allotments, that officer will not be spared,” he said.

He praised officials and contractors working on the ground, noting that projects delayed for years are now progressing. “Our engineers and contractors deserve recognition; they have been working continuously for months. The deadline is November 15, and work is already underway,” he said.

The Deputy CM also inspected repair and macadamisation work near the Cooperative Colony Bridge, instructing that completed stretches be opened to traffic promptly.

Earlier, during an inspection of the Sanat Nagar Flyover, Choudhary had warned the contractor of blacklisting if the project was not completed by November 15, and ordered an inquiry into Rs 23 crore payments released despite incomplete work.
