
SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Sunday laid the foundation stone for six road projects worth Rs 91.05 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Jammu district, aimed at improving rural connectivity and strengthening road infrastructure.
The projects, covering a total road length of 36.30 kilometres across five constituencies, were inaugurated virtually from the PWD Guest House in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma and MLAs Vikram Randhawa, Gharu Ram Bhagat and Devyani Rana were present on the occasion.
According to officials, the projects include road works in Chhamb (Rs 28.89 crore), Satwari (Rs 16.28 crore), Jammu East (Rs 7.89 crore), Akhnoor ( Rs 15.37 crore) and Nagrota (Rs 22.61 crore) constituencies.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government is committed to strengthening sustainable road connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in rural and remote areas. He stressed that quality construction and timely completion of projects remain top priorities.
Choudhary directed contractors and executing agencies to ensure timely and high-quality execution of works, warning that the government would maintain zero tolerance towards delays, lapses or compromise in construction standards.
He also instructed engineers to strictly adhere to project timelines and ensure all works are carried out in accordance with prescribed norms.
The Deputy Chief Minister further cautioned against practices such as low tendering approvals and work subletting that could hamper sustainable infrastructure development. He emphasised that field engineers must remain accessible to the public and actively monitor projects to ensure transparency and accountability.
Later, Choudhary reviewed the progress of ongoing PMGSY and PWD (R and B) projects in Jammu district and directed officials to maintain strict monitoring and quality control.
Chief Engineer PMGSY Purshotam Kumar, Chief Engineer PWD Rajesh Kumar Agastam, along with senior engineers and officials from PMGSY and PWD, were present during the review meeting.
