SRINAGAR: Police in central kashmir’s Ganderbal district apprehended an alleged drug peddler and recovered a contraband substance from his possession during a naka checking in the Gund area.

The accused was identified as Shabir Ahmad Bokda, son of Sooba Bokda, a resident of Syed Basti Surfraw. Police said a charas-like substance was recovered from him during a personal search.

According to police, a surprise naka was established at Syed Basti Surfraw by a team from Police Station Gund as part of routine surveillance and anti-narcotics operations. During the checking, a youth approaching the naka from the locality was observed moving suspiciously and was intercepted by the police party.

Upon searching him, the police recovered the contraband substance, which was seized following legal procedures. The accused was subsequently taken into custody.

A case under FIR No. 04/2026 has been registered at Police Station Gund under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

Police said the operation was part of its ongoing drive against drug trafficking and urged the public to share information related to drug peddling to help curb the menace.
