SRINAGAR: Police in Budgam arrested a suspected drug peddler in Chadoora and seized a heroin-like substance along with a vehicle allegedly used in the crime, officials said on Thursday.
Police said the arrest took place during a checkpoint operation at Durbugh Crossing by a team from Police Station Chadoora led by PSI Goverdhan Singh. A Mahindra Thar with registration number DL4CNA7913 was intercepted after the driver attempted to flee the spot.
The accused was identified as Mohammad Ashraf Nath, son of Mohammad Ismail Nath, a resident of Parnew, Wazir Bagh in Budgam. He was taken into custody on the spot, and a formal case has been registered under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act.
Officials said the seized vehicle has been taken into custody as part of the probe. “The arrest and seizure mark an important step in disrupting the drug supply chain in the district,” a senior officer said.
Police added that further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and determine whether more people are involved. (KNT)
