Jammu, Jan 18: Repeated drone intrusions along the Line of Control and the International Border over the past nine days have triggered serious security concerns, with at least six such incidents reported in forward areas of Jammu region, officials said on Sunday.
Official sources said that at least six drone intrusion attempts have been reported during this period, with three incidents along the International Border in Samba district and four along the Line of Control in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Along the LoC, drone movements were detected at multiple sensitive locations, including Kalsian in Nowshera sector, Doonga Galla in Keri area of Rajouri, Digwar in Poonch sector and Mankote area of Mendhar.
These repeated aerial intrusions have raised alarm among the security agencies deployed in the forward areas.
Official sources said that Army troops deployed along the LoC acted swiftly and opened fire to neutralise the suspected drones at Kalsian Nowshera, Doonga Galla in Rajouri and Digwar in Poonch in an attempt to shoot them down.
The timely action by the troops prevented any immediate damage, though the intrusions have added to the prevailing security concerns.
Defence sources said that such drone activities are being viewed as serious violations of the ceasefire agreement between the two armies and have the potential to escalate border tension.
Meanwhile, ground troops have been placed on the highest state of alert, with intensified surveillance and counter-drone measures being put in place amid apprehensions of more such intrusions in the coming days.
Security forces are closely monitoring the situation to thwart any hostile attempts along the LoC and IB.
