Dr Farooq, Omar Abdullah, LG Sinha Urge Reflection on Karbala Lessons

SRINAGAR: On the occasion of Youm-e-Ashura, JK National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, recalling their sacrifice at the Battle of Karbala.

In a statement issued from the National Conference headquarters, Dr Farooq Abdullah said the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Aali Muqam (AS) and his 72 companions continues to serve as a reference point for humanity. He said Imam Hussain (AS) represents values that go beyond sectarian identities and stands for resistance against injustice and oppression.

He said that the stand taken at Karbala remains relevant and continues to guide individuals towards principles of truth and justice.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the month of Muharram marks a key moment in Islamic history. He described the actions of Imam Hussain (AS) and his family as a clear stance between truth and falsehood. He urged people to reflect on values such as unity, compassion, and moral responsibility, and said these remain central to the message of Karbala.

In a separate message, the Chief Minister said the events of Karbala carry lessons on dignity and principled resistance. He called upon people to draw strength from the patience and determination shown by Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions. He also asked the public to uphold peaceful coexistence and renewed his call for adherence to justice and equality in society.

The Chief Minister expressed solidarity with all communities commemorating Ashura and directed the administration to ensure peaceful conduct of Muharram-related gatherings across Jammu and Kashmir.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in his message on the eve of Ashura, also recalled the events of Karbala and the commitment shown by Imam Hussain (AS) to principles of justice and human dignity. He said the sacrifice continues to inspire the values of social harmony and righteousness.

He urged people to follow the ideals of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and contribute to building an inclusive and fair society.
