Bandipora, Aug 16: Medical Superintendent in Bandipora suspended a government doctor for failing to attend her scheduled duty and the Independence Day celebrations.

According to an order issued by the Chief Medical Officer Bandipora, “Dr Sabia Salam, Medical Officer, was supposed to attend her scheduled duty on 14-08-2025, which she failed to do, thereby adversely affecting patient care at District Hospital Bandipora.”

The order further states that on 15 August, “despite clear and written instructions to attend the Independence Day celebrations, you remained absent without any prior intimation or authorisation. Such conduct has been viewed seriously as it amounts to disrespect and disregard for a National Event and reflects indiscipline unbecoming of a Government servant.”

Citing provisions under Rule 31 of the Jammu & Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, read with Article 128 of the J&K Civil Service Regulations, the order said, “pending enquiry into the matter, Dr Sabia Salam, Medical Officer, is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect.”

During the suspension, Dr Salam has been attached with the Head of Department, Ophthalmology, District Hospital Bandipora, and will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per rules, the order added.
