SRINAGAR: The District Magistrate, Srinagar, has issued an advisory urging residents to remain vigilant and adopt fire safety precautions amid the increasing use of heating devices during the winter season.
Highlighting the heightened fire risk during the cold months, the administration has appealed to the public to strictly follow safety measures to prevent fire-related incidents in homes and commercial establishments.
The advisory instructs residents to switch off or unplug all electrical heating gadgets, stoves, bukharies, and LPG stoves before going to bed or leaving their premises. It also urges caution in handling kangris, especially at night, and calls for storing dry grass, firewood, and other inflammable materials away from living spaces.
People have been warned against using faulty or substandard electrical appliances, including high-wattage heaters and defective electric blankets. The use of good quality fuses, MCBs, and ELCBs has been recommended to ensure electrical safety.
Citizens have been advised to remain present in the kitchen while cooking, to switch off LPG stoves and cylinders when not in use, and to ensure proper ventilation when using gas heaters. The advisory also stresses keeping escape routes and water sources unobstructed and avoiding careless disposal of cigarette butts.
In case of fire emergencies, the public has been asked to contact Fire and Emergency Services on Toll-Free No. 101 or reach the Control Room Srinagar at 0194-2452155 or 2452222, or the nearest fire station.
The District Magistrate has urged residents to act responsibly and adhere to all preventive guidelines to safeguard life and property during the winter season.
