Baramulla, Mar 27: After huge public outcry over the dilapidated condition of the wooden suspension bridge over the River Jhelum, connecting the famous Eco Park with the national highway, the Baramulla district administration has ordered its immediate closure.

“The Eco Park suspension bridge, Baramulla, shall remain closed for all pedestrian and public movement with immediate effect,” reads the order issued vide No. DMB/PS/1320-23, dated 25-03-2026.

The officials of the R&B Division Baramulla have been directed to ensure its physical closure by placing appropriate barricades at both ends of the bridge. They have been further instructed to install permanent warning signage stating that the bridge is unsafe and closed for public use, and to take up necessary repair and restoration work on priority.

“The closure shall continue till the bridge is fully repaired and a safety certificate is issued by the Executive Engineer, R&B,” the order states. Notably, Greater Kashmir on Monday carried a comprehensive story highlighting the danger posed by the dilapidated wooden suspension bridge. The Eco Park Baramulla attracts a huge crowd during the Eid festival and is a popular attraction for school-going children who visit the park on excursions. During the Eid festivities, thousands of people visited the park. Visitors faced difficulties while using the bridge, as its condition has deteriorated significantly, with several wooden planks damaged or missing, exposing the river below.
