Srinagar: In a major enforcement action, the Drugs and Food Control Organization (DFCO) on Friday confiscated 725 kilograms of unlabelled honey from the HMT area of Srinagar, officials said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Food Safety Enforcement wing conducted a targeted inspection in the Abanshah locality of HMT, where the honey stock was found stored without mandatory statutory labelling.
According to a DFCO spokesperson, the seized consignment lacked essential details required under food safety regulations, including the product name, net quantity, date of packing or manufacture, best-before or expiry date, name and address of the manufacturer or packer, FSSAI licence number, and applicable storage instructions.
“Samples have been collected and will be sent for laboratory analysis to verify compliance with prescribed standards,” the spokesperson said.
The department termed the sale of unlabelled food products illegal and potentially hazardous to public health, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance against unsafe and non-compliant food items in the market.
Consumers have been advised to check packaging details carefully before purchase and report any suspicious or unlabelled food products to the Food Safety Helpline at 104. Officials warned that strict legal action will be initiated against violators found compromising food safety norms.
