India should not be making mistake of taking remarks of Pakistan’s former High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit who called for attacking India in the eventuality of his nation being attacked by America or any other country . This is straight from ISI , Pakistan’s spy agency which is working 24×7 against India.
In his remarks, now viral , given to ABN, a Pakistani channel funded by ISI , Abdul Basit has suggested Pakistan should straightway attack India, target its cities Mumbai and Delhi with its nuclear missiles if the US attacks Pakistan. “ Pakistan should go straightway attack India regardless of the consequences that it may entail, Basit said.
Pakistan’s former High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit is no stranger to controversies , but this hawkish diplomat makes comments after due consideration and most of the times to broadcast the line of Pakistan’s military and its spy agency ISI.
There is a design behind these remarks broadcast at a time when the West Asia is caught in what seems to be no-exit conflict . The war in the West Asia that started with America-Israel strikes against Iran on February 28 , killing its supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several others , has entered the fourth week . Pakistan is caught in a tight spot as it is unable to take a stand against the US and Israel , nor support Iran whole heartedly .
Pakistan also caught in an open war with Afghanistan is looking for diverting attention from its internal troubles and do something spectacular that may make the world to focus on India , and in particular Kashmir .
Although Basit saw the US or Israel attacking Pakistan as remote , almost in the realm of impossibility , yet in hypothetical terms , he said if it happens , Pakistan should attack India, as Pakistan missiles can hit Indian cities . Interestingly , rather intriguingly ,it is the host of the who “ Decipher with Abdul Basit” on ABN channel who quips India, when the former diplomat poses a question , “ in the case of the ( US or Israel) attack , Pakistani missiles cannot reach America or Israel, in that situation what should it do and whom should it attack ?” this shows that this was a pre-decided course of talk show , intended to signal to the world that it could fire nuclear missiles at India irrespective of the consequences . He said : “ then we will see what happens next”.
It is not a statement of committing suicide . It is a very calculated plan that Pakistan military has made , to mount attack on India if faced with a do or die situation . That it is mere rhetorical provocation to India is an understatement . Basit is broadcasting Pakistan military’s intent .
Pakistani circles have been advocating that the country should have pressed the Nuclear button when Operation Sindoor was launched by India . They ignore the fact that it was due to Pahalgam massacre carried out by Pakistani terrorists that made India to go in for anti-terror operation code named “ Operation Sindoor” to blow terrorist infrastructure inside Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir . This was not an anti-Pakistan operation , but military action against terrorists and their infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK. India had no intention to go beyond it, as it was made clear to Pakistan within minutes after the initial strikes that it was mean for terrorists only, it was Pakistan that took it as anti-Pakistan operation and escalated the situation , resulting in four-day-long war .
The timings of this statement should also be read against the backdrop of the Director National Intelligence s remarks during her testimony before the US Senate in which she said that Pakistan was developing ICBM which could reach the US. Pakistan is trying to say that it is not having any such intention, but of course, if US takes any action against it , this will retaliate not against the US or Israel, but India .
What is Pakistan trying to achieve by this rhetoric , making US to rethink about painting Pakistan and its missile programme as a threat . Here it is trying to suggest that America should desist from taking any pre-emptive action against Pakistan on the pattern of February 28 strikes against Iran .
India should not be ignoring these rhetorical threats because Pakistan caught in a situation where its internal situation is worsening day by day , wants to keep the world attention away from its role as an exporter of terrorism. There is a feeling in certain sections in Pakistan that India should be taken to task for launching Operation Sindoor in May last year.
India would do well to study the situation , and tell Pakistan that such threats would have consequences . Basit might have answered a hypothetical question , but India will do something in reality as it did during the initial stage of Operation Sindoor .
