Ganderbal: With water levels swelling in the Sindh Nallah due to continuous inclement weather, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, on Wednesday undertook an extensive tour of vulnerable areas to assess the situation and review preparedness measures.

The DC inspected Bumloora, Fatehpora, Gadoora, Rakhi Harran, and adjoining low-lying locations, accompanied by ADC Syed Fahim Bihaqi, Executive Engineer I&FC, Tehsildar Ganderbal, and other officials. The I&FC authorities briefed him on the current water situation and the reinforcement of embankments at critical spots.

Kishore directed that men and machinery remain on standby, sandbags be pre-positioned, and evacuation plans kept ready. Tehsildar Ganderbal confirmed that designated evacuation sites have already been identified. The DC further ordered regular public announcements in vulnerable areas to ensure timely alerts and community awareness.

Later, the DC inspected Kijpora in Kangan and reviewed the condition of the road over Kijpora Nallah. He instructed the SDM Kangan to maintain round-the-clock vigilance and asked Beacon authorities to ensure prompt debris clearance along the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri (SSG) road to keep it traffic-worthy.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment to public safety, Kishore urged residents living near Sindh Nallah and other water bodies to stay cautious, avoid risky zones, and strictly follow advisories.
