
Kupwara: Cyber Police Station Kupwara reported strong action against cybercrime during 2025, citing higher public awareness and improved coordination with banks and other agencies.
Official figures show that the station received 692 online cyber complaints during the year. These included 596 cases related to financial fraud and 96 complaints linked to social media misuse and other cyber offences.
Police said the total amount involved in financial fraud cases stood at Rs 1,58,59,030. Through timely intervention and coordination with financial institutions and courts, an amount of Rs 70,09,337.55 was secured or recovered and returned to affected victims.
In another significant outcome, cyber police traced and recovered 44 lost or stolen mobile phones. The recovered devices were valued at around Rs 6.6 lakh and were handed back to their rightful owners after due verification.
Officials said prompt reporting played a key role in recoveries and preventive action. The police advised citizens to immediately report any cyber fraud through the national helpline 1930 or via the portal www.cybercrime.gov.in.
Cyber Police Station Kupwara urged users to remain alert while using digital platforms and to avoid sharing sensitive information to prevent falling victim to online scams.
