SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch Kashmir has registered two separate cases against two alleged fraudsters accused of duping people in multi-lakh land frauds through deceitful property sales, forged revenue documents and breach of trust.

The accused have been identified as Riyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Nowgam, Srinagar, and Shabir Ahmad Wani, son of Mohammad Ismail Wani of Lasjan, Srinagar.

According to officials, one case was lodged following a complaint by a woman who alleged that Bhat sold her a plot of land measuring one kanal and five marlas at Balhama for Rs 25 lakh. The land was later found to have been sold to another buyer, and repayment cheques issued by the accused were dishonoured.

In another case, a complainant alleged that Bhat and Wani sold him 1 kanal and 10 marlas of land at Balhama, Patha Chowk, Srinagar, for Rs 73 lakh and executed a registered sale deed. However, the accused, in connivance with revenue officials, allegedly fabricated records and resold the land to another person, defrauding the buyer of the entire amount.

Investigators noted that both accused have a history of similar offences and were previously arrested in connection with FIR No. 14/2025.

The Crime Branch said thorough investigations have been launched and warned that any involvement of revenue officials or third parties would be dealt with strictly under the law. Further action will follow based on the probe’s outcome.
