SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has filed a chargesheet before the Court of the City Judge (Sub Registrar), Srinagar, in connection with a large-scale employment fraud case, officials said.

The chargesheet has been submitted in FIR No. 49/2022, registered under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), relating to allegations of cheating and forgery in the name of providing jobs.

According to officials, the case originated from a written complaint lodged by several residents of the Tangmarg area, who alleged that they were duped by Reyaz Ahmad Taploo, son of Mohammad Sidiq Taploo, a resident of Anchaar Dagapora, Soura, Srinagar. The accused allegedly promised employment as security guards in reputed hospitals and banks and, on this pretext, collected large sums of money running into several lakhs of rupees from unemployed youth.

Investigators said the accused further misled victims by issuing fake appointment letters and providing uniform items to make the job offers appear genuine. During the course of investigation, it was prima facie established that Taploo was operating a fake non-governmental organisation under the name “SAI NGO Consultancy”, which he allegedly used as a front to carry out the fraud.

The EOW said the investigation revealed that the accused systematically cheated job seekers by issuing forged documents and making false assurances of employment. The probe concluded that he was involved in deliberate acts of cheating, forgery and using forged documents as genuine, thereby committing serious economic offences and exploiting vulnerable unemployed youth.

After completing all legal formalities and collecting sufficient evidence, the Economic Offences Wing formally presented the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial scrutiny and trial.

Meanwhile, the EOW reiterated its commitment to curbing employment-related frauds and advised the public to remain vigilant, urging job seekers to verify the credentials of recruiting agencies and avoid making financial payments without proper authentication.
