Jammu, Dec 26: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of Crime Branch Jammu on Friday filed a charge sheet in a fraud and cheating case involving Rs 9 lakh against an accused identified as Akhil Goel, son of Vinod Goel, a resident of Kanak Mandi, Jammu.

The charge sheet has been filed in FIR No. 18/2025 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), registered at Police Station Special Crime Wing, Jammu.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police, SCW Jammu, Sanjay Parihar, the case originated from a written complaint lodged by a resident of Srinagar. The complainant alleged that the accused, who was working as a consultant, assured him of securing admission for his daughter in Hisar Veterinary College, Haryana.

Believing the assurances, the complainant transferred a total amount of 9 lakh to the accused through bank transfers and Google Pay on different dates between September 18 and October 10, 2024, into the accused’s SBI account at Hari Market Branch, Jammu.

However, despite repeated follow-ups, the accused allegedly failed to arrange the promised admission and later stopped responding to phone calls.

The complainant also visited the accused’s residence several times but was informed by his elderly mother that she was unaware of his whereabouts. The accused reportedly absconded, causing mental distress to the complainant’s family and jeopardising the academic future of his daughter.

Following receipt of the complaint, Crime Branch (SCW) Jammu conducted a preliminary verification, after which FIR No. 18/2025 was registered for detailed investigation.

During the investigation, it was established that the accused had dishonestly induced the complainant to part with 9 lakh by making false promises, thereby causing wrongful loss to the complainant and corresponding wrongful gain to himself.

The investigation was conducted by Inspector Nissar Ahmed of the Special Crime Wing under the close supervision of SSP Sanjay Parihar.

On December 26, 2025, the investigating officer produced the charge sheet before the competent court at Jammu for judicial determination.

Reiterating its commitment to curb cheating and fraud, the Crime Branch (SCW) Jammu has appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to fraudulent individuals and misleading offers.
