
Shopian: In a continued crackdown against illegal mining, Shopian Police have seized multiple vehicles, including five tractors, one tipper, and one dumper, allegedly involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from the Rambiara Nallah in Shopian, Keegam, and Heerpora areas.
According to police, four tractors were seized by Police Station Shopian for operating without valid royalty documents. A case, FIR No. 218/2025, has been registered under relevant provisions of law, and investigations are underway.
Similarly, a dumper (JK19-7825) was seized by Police Post Keegam for the same offence. In this regard, FIR No. 217/2025 has been lodged at Police Station Shopian.
In another operation, a tipper and a tractor were seized by Police Station Heerpora for operating without valid documentation. A separate case, FIR No. 48/2025, has been registered and investigation taken up.
A police spokesperson said that the district police is committed to protecting natural resources, even as stressing a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal mining. The public has been urged to report any such activities, with authorities assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
