Srinagar, Feb 20: President, Bharatiya Janata Party J&K and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Sat Sharma chaired a meeting of party activists in Srinagar to review organisational matters and seek feedback on ongoing programmes. He was accompanied by General Secretary Anwar Khan.

Taking a strong dig at the Congress, Sat Sharma said that the party is misleading the nation and the innocent public of J&K on important international trade deals. He clarified that the interests of Indian farmers remain fully protected, as per a press release.

Citing the example of apple production, he stated that the country produces around 21 lakh tonnes of apples annually, while the domestic requirement is about 26 lakh tonnes. “Nearly 5 lakh tonnes have to be procured from outside the country to meet demand. Out of this, only a small quantity is being imported from the US, and that too at higher rates, which in reality poses zero competition to the local produce,” he said.
