SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday urged people not to rush to petrol pumps following rumours, warning that panic-driven crowding could lead to avoidable disruption in fuel distribution.
He said there is no shortage of petrol or diesel and appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid long queues outside fuel stations. The Chief Minister cautioned that if the rush continues due to misinformation, the government may be compelled to temporarily shut petrol pumps to manage the situation.
Abdullah said the administration is closely monitoring developments and confirmed that fuel supplies remain adequate.
He also referred to a meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the situation in Iran and neighbouring regions, noting that discussions would focus on ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential commodities if required.
Reiterating his appeal, the Chief Minister urged people to rely only on official information and avoid spreading or acting on rumours.
