SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday urged travel agents and tour operators to strengthen collaboration with the government to promote Jammu and Kashmir as a safe, vibrant and year-round tourism destination.
Addressing stakeholders from the travel and trade sector in Mumbai, including representatives from Maharashtra and Gujarat, Abdullah highlighted the key role played by Maharashtra as a major source market for JK tourism. He acknowledged the continued support of Maharashtra-based travel agencies, particularly in the aftermath of last year’s Pahalgam attack, saying their confidence helped revive tourist inflow and restore trust in the destination.
The Chief Minister said Jammu and Kashmir offers diverse tourism products, including leisure, adventure, pilgrimage and wellness tourism, and reiterated the government’s commitment to safety, infrastructure development and a tourist-friendly environment.
The outreach event, organised as part of the Maharashtra and Gujarat Travel Fraternity programme, also saw the felicitation of select travel agents and associations for their contribution to promoting JK tourism.
The programme was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Member of Parliament Gurinder Singh Shammi, Gulmarg MLA Peerzada Farooq Ahmed Shah, Director Tourism Jammu Vikas Gupta, and representatives of major travel bodies from Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The interaction aimed to enhance coordination with the travel industry and reinforce efforts to position Jammu and Kashmir as a preferred destination for domestic and international tourists.
