SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday extended greetings to the people on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day of India, reaffirming commitment to constitutional values, unity and democratic governance.

In his message, Dr Farooq Abdullah said Republic Day serves as a reminder of the principles enshrined in the Constitution that have guided the nation through decades of challenges. He said the Constitution stands as a symbol of the country’s collective commitment to secularism, federalism, democracy and social justice, adding that these values have ensured unity in diversity and must be protected to strengthen the foundations of the nation.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the occasion calls for reaffirming faith in the constitutional ideals that bind the country together. He said the secular and federal Constitution guarantees equality, dignity and justice to every citizen and stressed that it is a shared responsibility to uphold these values and work towards a more inclusive, democratic and harmonious India.

The National Conference leadership expressed hope that the country would continue to progress on the path of peace, unity and constitutional governance and wished the people prosperity and well-being on the occasion. Party workers also conveyed greetings to the people across the country.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in his message on the eve of Republic Day, extended greetings to the people of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and paid tribute to the architects of the Indian Constitution for their vision, courage and sacrifice. He said the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity continue to uphold the democratic and socialist ethos of the nation.

The Lieutenant Governor saluted workers, farmers, professionals, students, youth, women, entrepreneurs, artists and civil society members for their contribution to strengthening democracy and driving development in the Union Territory.

He also commended the armed forces, paramilitary forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their role in maintaining peace and security. He expressed gratitude to security personnel and civil administration for their role during Operation Sindoor, launched following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, and said the operation reflected India’s resolve against terrorism.

Sinha further praised the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF for eliminating the militants involved in the attack during Operation Mahadev and lauded the police for uncovering a nationwide terror network last year, preventing several attacks.

Calling for collective effort, the Lieutenant Governor said Jammu and Kashmir must work towards accelerated economic growth, robust infrastructure and leadership in the knowledge-based and information technology sectors. He emphasised the need to ensure equitable access to education, healthcare and opportunities, particularly for youth and women, to realise their full potential.
