SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday launched the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism App while chairing a review meeting on the development of emerging tourist destinations across the Union Territory.

The app, officials said, is designed to help visitors explore Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism potential by providing details on destinations, facilities, and other relevant information.

The meeting was attended by Advisor to the CM Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Dheeraj Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary Tourism Dr Ashish Chandra Verma, Director Tourism Kashmir Raja Yaqoob Farooq, MD JKTDC Shreya Singhal, and other senior officials, both in person and virtually.

During the review, the Chief Minister stressed the need for site-specific tourism development backed by master plans for each destination. He called for sustainable practices such as solid and liquid waste management systems, while also emphasising the importance of a project management unit to strengthen institutional mechanisms.

Omar Abdullah expressed satisfaction over progress with the World Bank team for multi-lateral funding, urging the Tourism Department to fast-track proposals for cabinet approval. He underlined the importance of multi-tiered coordination between tourism authorities, local bodies, line departments, and the Union Government for timely execution of projects.

He further said that the development of new destinations should follow the principle of Economy, Ecology, and Equity to strike a balance between growth and sustainability. A presentation during the meeting highlighted the potential of emerging destinations to generate employment for local youth.
