
SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday inaugurated the Almond Blossom Festival-2026, titled Badam Vaer Blooms, at Badamwari Garden in the old city of Srinagar, marking the arrival of the spring season in Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, Abdullah said the festival reflects Kashmir’s deep connection with nature and its rich cultural heritage. He noted that the blooming almond trees symbolise renewal, hope and the cultural vibrancy of the region.
The Chief Minister said such events help revive historic spaces while promoting tourism and generating economic opportunities for local artisans and artists. He added that festivals like the Almond Blossom Festival provide a platform to showcase Kashmir’s spring season, traditional crafts and artistic talent while encouraging community participation in preserving heritage.
The event, organised by the Department of Floriculture, Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed the participation of senior officials, artists, students, tourists and local residents.
Among those present were Minister for Agriculture Production Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq, along with senior officers of various departments and Jammu Kashmir Bank.
During the visit, the Chief Minister toured the historic garden and interacted with visitors. He also launched an online ticketing portal for gardens across Jammu and Kashmir to simplify ticketing and improve visitor convenience.
Abdullah said the e-ticketing initiative would modernise tourist facilities and ensure easier access for both tourists and local visitors. He also inspected an exhibition at the venue where farmers, florists and artisans displayed their produce and handicrafts, and appreciated their contribution to preserving Kashmir’s traditional crafts and horticulture practices.
