SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday issued an advisory cautioning the public and media against circulating the identity, photographs, or any personal details of a minor girl victim on social media platforms, stating that such actions are unlawful and may attract strict legal action.
Police said it has come to their notice that certain individuals are sharing the victim’s images and identifying information online, which could lead to misinformation, public unrest, and disturbance of communal harmony. Authorities have urged people to refrain from posting or forwarding any such content, as disclosure of a minor victim’s identity is prohibited under law.
Officials confirmed that FIR No. 139/2026 has been registered at Police Station Budgam under Sections 137(1) and 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is underway under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Budgam.
The police added that social media activity related to the case is being closely monitored and reiterated their commitment to a fair and thorough investigation.
The public has been appealed to cooperate with investigating agencies and avoid sharing or engaging with unverified or misleading information online.
