While sanitation remains a State subject, the Centre provides financial and technical support, policy guidance, and standard operating procedures for effective waste management.
Under the AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0 schemes, 18 sewerage and septage management projects have been sanctioned for JK, including 15 projects worth Rs 137.26 crore under AMRUT and three projects costing Rs 373.35 crore under AMRUT 2.0, aimed at enhancing sewage treatment infrastructure.
The Ministry noted that at the national level, 97 percent of wards have achieved door-to-door waste collection and 88 percent have implemented source segregation. Progress is monitored through third-party assessments under Swachh Survekshan.
