Srinagar: The Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) on Tuesday said its Economic Offences Wing has booked four persons, including a serving Patwari, in connection with a major land fraud case in Ganderbal.

According to a CBK statement, an FIR has been registered against the accused identified as Khurshid Ahmad Bhat (Patwari), son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Fatepora Ganderbal; Ghulam Nabi Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat of Fatepora Ganderbal; Abdul Rashid Parray, son of Abdul Gani Parray of Pandach Ganderbal; and Sajid Rashid Parray, son of Abdul Rashid Parray of Pandach Ganderbal.

The case was initiated on a written complaint alleging that Patwari Khurshid Ahmad Bhat, along with the others, fraudulently posed as landowners and entered into a sale agreement for 7 kanals and 2 marlas of land at Mouza Nuner, Ganderbal. The land, however, was actually owned by a migrant Kashmiri Pandit and held under a power of attorney by a third party.

The complainant had reportedly paid ₹1.19 crore out of a total ₹2.76 crore deal before the fraud was unearthed.

Preliminary investigation, the CBK said, indicates a criminal conspiracy involving forged documents, impersonation, and deliberate deception. The offences are punishable under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 120-B of the IPC.

A case has been registered at Police Station, Economic Offences Wing, and further investigation is underway.
