
SRINAGAR: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Field Office Srinagar, on Tuesday organised a day-long Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Uri, focusing on Swachhata, Mission LiFE and the new criminal laws. The programme aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection, sustainable lifestyle practices and the public welfare focus of the newly enacted criminal justice system.
Resource persons from the district administration, Education, Forest, Municipality, Police and other departments addressed the gathering. They underlined that cleanliness is the foundation of a healthy life and urged students to embrace sustainable lifestyle practices in daily life.
DySP Jammu and Kashmir Police Rajat Sambyal gave a detailed presentation on the new criminal laws, stressing that the revised legal framework is designed more for public welfare than mere punishment. He called on participants, especially female students, to familiarise themselves with the new provisions and encouraged them to report crimes without hesitation, describing it as the first vital step in timely justice delivery.
Speakers from the Forest Department highlighted the need to protect flora and fauna, linking sustainable lifestyle practices with the judicious use of natural resources. They also shared details of departmental initiatives aimed at conservation. Officials from the Municipality emphasised waste segregation at source and elaborated on measures to reduce pollution of land and water bodies.
Representatives from the Education Department spoke on Mission LiFE, urging the younger generation to adopt clean and green habits and to play an active role in environmental protection. The Disaster Management Department conducted live demonstrations on handling natural disasters, equipping students with practical life-saving skills.
Filed Publicity Officer, CBC Srinagar, Naseer Ahmad Rather, stressed community engagement and the judicious use of natural resources to achieve sustainable development. He said such outreach initiatives are being held across Jammu and Kashmir to sensitise the younger generation about environmental protection and sustainable practices. He also underlined the importance of Swachhata Pakhwada in promoting cleanliness and hygiene.
Field Publicity Officer, CBC Anantnag, Shahid Mohammad Lone, highlighted CBC’s role in ensuring the timely dissemination of information about government welfare initiatives so that benefits reach people at the grassroots.
The programme featured an open quiz, debate, and painting and drawing competitions, with participants receiving mementoes and certificates. Students also presented colourful musical performances centred on the programme themes. A Shramdaan activity and plantation drive added to the day’s engagement.
The event concluded with participants taking a pledge to uphold Swachhata and commit themselves to adopting sustainable lifestyle practices, reinforcing the collective call for a cleaner and greener future.
