SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, chaired by CM Omar Abdullah, is scheduled to meet on Monday to take key policy decisions, including approval of a land allotment policy for flood-affected families and a proposed Rs 118 crore financial infusion for cooperative banks, official sources said.
The Cabinet meeting will be held at the Civil Secretariat at 10:30 am and is expected to deliberate on a range of welfare, administrative and financial matters.
A major item on the agenda is the approval of a policy to allot five marlas of land to families whose houses were damaged or destroyed due to flash floods, cloudbursts and landslides during the recent monsoon season. The move follows widespread damage reported across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly during the extreme weather events of August 14 and August 26.
According to sources, the proposed policy has been finalised after detailed consultations and is aimed at providing permanent rehabilitation to families rendered homeless by the calamities. The Chief Minister had earlier announced government support for those whose homes were severely affected during the monsoon disasters.
The Cabinet is also expected to consider a proposal to infuse Rs 118 crore into the Jammu Central Cooperative Bank and the Anantnag Central Cooperative Bank. The financial support is intended to stabilise the two institutions, which have been facing operational and financial stress. The government views cooperative banks as critical to sustaining rural credit flow and supporting the cooperative sector.
Another issue likely to come up for discussion is the enhancement of the pay level of Village Level Workers of the Rural Development Department, a long-pending demand that has been under examination by the government.
In addition, around 20 posts of District Panchayat Officers are proposed to be redesignated as Block Development Officers to strengthen administrative efficiency at the grassroots level.
Sources said the Cabinet may also deliberate on broader financial matters, including central assistance and related issues, though the Union Territory Budget for 2026–27 is expected to be presented in March next year.
All decisions taken by the Cabinet will require approval of the Lieutenant Governor before implementation.
