Bovine Theft Bid Foiled in North Kashmir, One Held

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in North Kashmir’s Handwara apprehended an individual involved in a bovine theft attempt at Mawer Crossing on the evening of July 4, 2025.

“A police team from Police Station Qalamabad, while on night patrol, intercepted a suspicious person leading a group of bovines near Mawer Crossing. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended on the spot. He has been identified as Mohd Ismaiel Badana, son of Gulam ud Din, a resident of Lahikote Monabal,” police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the bovines had been stolen from the Puthwari Nowgam area, and the accused was attempting to transport them illegally towards Qalamabad for sale.

“A case under FIR No. 20/2025 has been registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Qalamabad. Further investigation is underway,”  police said.
