SRINAGAR: The body of 27-year-old Bilal Ahmad Sango, a labourer from Baba Nagri Wangat in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, who died in the recent car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, was brought to his native village on Wednesday. Sango, who had been working in Delhi since 2019, was among thirteen people killed in the explosion.

Police officials said a photograph circulating on social media helped initiate the identification process. The picture, showing one of the deceased victims, was noticed by locals in Wangat who alerted the family. Relatives later confirmed the identity based on visible features and immediately approached police authorities in Delhi and Kashmir.

They said that the family was assured that all logistical arrangements would be made to bring the body back to Kashmir. Coordination between Delhi Police and JK Police continued throughout the night as the formalities were completed and transportation was arranged.

The body reached Baba Nagri Wangat earlier today, where emotional scenes were witnessed as locals gathered to receive the mortal remains. Family members said Sango had been working as a daily-wage labourer in the capital to support his household expenses.

Hundreds of people participated in the last rites of the victim. He was buried at his ancestral graveyard in Wangat. [KNT]
