SRINAGAR: The Baramulla district administration has initiated a verification drive for all journalists operating in the district to prevent the misuse of media identity and address cases of impersonation.

According to a circular issued by the Office of the District Information Officer, Baramulla, media persons have been directed to submit their credentials within seven days as part of the verification process. The order follows directions from the Joint Director Information Kashmir.

The circular stated that the step aims to “protect the sanctity of journalism” and curb the “growing menace of fake journalists,” while ensuring transparency and authenticity among media professionals.

It further clarified that only those journalists “duly validated and authenticated” by the District Information Office will be allowed to attend official government functions, press conferences, and cover visits of VIPs and VVIPs within Baramulla district. Unauthorised or unverified individuals will not be permitted under any circumstances.
