SRINAGAR: The District Magistrate Udhampur has imposed a ban on procuring, stocking, sale, and use of synthetic nylon glass-coated threads, popularly known as Pakka Thread, Dori, and Chinese Manja, within the district’s territorial jurisdiction.
According to an order issued by District Magistrate Saloni Rai (IAS), the ban has been enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023. The decision was taken after consultations with the J&K State Pollution Control Board and in compliance with the directives of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
The order states that these materials pose a serious threat of injury and fatalities to humans and birds and cause environmental hazards due to their non-biodegradable nature.
The Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur has been instructed to ensure strict enforcement of the order in letter and spirit, while the directive will be widely circulated through print, electronic, and social media for public awareness. (KNC)
