Badshah Budkoot clinches Hajra Memorial cricket title

Kupwara, Jul 6: With cricket fever running high across Kashmir, Badshah Budkoot Cricket Club outclassed Kultoora Cricket Club by 8 wickets to lift the Hajra Memorial Cricket Tournament title in a thrilling final at the Boys Higher Secondary School ground in Handwara on Sunday.

The final cricket match, as per a statement, drew loud cheers from a packed crowd, making a vibrant celebration of local sporting talent.

The tournament finale witnessed an enthusiastic turnout, with both teams showcasing impressive talent and sportsmanship throughout the match.

Tehsildar Handwara Zeeshan Khan graced the occasion as the guest of honour. In his address, he commended the performance of both teams and lauded the efforts of the tournament organisers. Emphasising the vital role of sports in youth development, he encouraged young people to embrace athletics as a path to a healthier lifestyle.

He also delivered a strong message urging children to avoid drugs and smoking, presenting sports as a constructive and empowering alternative.

The tournament concluded on a high note, reinforcing the positive impact of community sports events in promoting unity, discipline, and healthy living among the youth.

Notably, several local cricket tournaments are currently underway across the Valley. Meanwhile a major tournament in north Kashmir is also set to kick off on Monday 7 July 2025, expected to draw top local teams of valley and large crowds, further fuelling the region’s vibrant cricketing scene.
