Ayatullah Brolmo’s death anniversary commemorated in Kargil

Srinagar, Jul 10: In Ladakh, the death anniversary of the revered religious scholar and jurist, Ayatullah Sheikh Ali Elmi Brolmo, was solemnly observed at the historic Qadimi Imam Bargha of Goma Hundermo Brok, located on the Line of Control (LOC), in collaboration with the village committee of Hundermo Brok.

The programme was graced by the presence of Sheikh Ali Mussa Irfani, a respected local cleric, who served as the chief guest.

In his keynote address, Sheikh Irfani reflected on the religious and social contributions of Ayatullah Brolmo, praising his pivotal role in spreading Islamic teachings and guiding the community with wisdom and justice.

Historian and author Muhammad Sadiq Hardassi delivered a detailed talk on the life, legacy, and scholarly work of the late cleric, emphasising his influence on religious thought and social harmony in the region.

Locals made a significant appeal during the event, requesting the Government of India to consider opening the Kargil-Skardu road for one day annually on the 14th of Muharram, to allow pilgrims and divided families to visit the shrine of Ayatullah Sheikh Ali Brolmo in Brolmo, similar to the model of the Kartarpur Corridor.

They said such a gesture would promote people-to-people connections and religious unity across the divided regions.

Asgar Shabani, a family member of Ayatullah Sheikh Ali Brolmo, thanked the organisers for honouring the legacy of his ancestor.

He underscored the importance of holding such events to keep alive the memory of those who made profound contributions to society through their knowledge, service, and leadership.

The programme concluded with special prayers for peace, prosperity, and unity among all humanity.

Ayatullah Sheikh Ali Brolmo was also held in high regard by the local Buddhist community, who affectionately referred to him as ‘Nima Ali’, in recognition of his justice, fairness, wisdom, and compassion.
