Srinagar: Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) has expressed solidarity with the victims of the tragic cloudburst and landslides in Reasi and Ramban terming the loss of lives “unbearable.”
Er. Rashid led party’s Chief Spokesperson Inam un Nabi said, “This is an unbearable tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families in this dark hour. We stand in solidarity with them in their suffering.”
Inam Un Nabi, however, sharply criticized the government’s response and questioned its preparedness. “It is not enough for leaders to simply express anguish after every disaster. Where is the comprehensive disaster preparedness plan? Why are vulnerable areas not identified, mapped and evacuated in advance when heavy rainfall is predicted? Disaster management cannot be left to photo-ops and token statements. The government must show seriousness, foresight and responsibility to protect human lives,” reads the statement, as per Alfaaz – The Words.
Inam further urged structural reforms in disaster management for Jammu & Kashmir. “Disaster-prone areas of Jammu & Kashmir, particularly Ramban, Reasi and Doda, require permanent disaster response units, advance warning systems, real-time alerts, and timely evacuation mechanisms. Compensation and rehabilitation packages for affected families must be announced without delay and accountability fixed for lapses in preventive evacuation and preparedness.
Inam said that AIP will continue to be the voice of the voiceless and push for robust disaster preparedness policies so that such tragedies are not repeated.”
