
SRINAGAR: Police in Budgam have arrested an accused in an ATM fraud case reported from the Magam area, following a swift investigation triggered by a written complaint from a local resident.
According to police, Police Station Magam received a complaint from Ghulam Ahmad Bhat of Parraypora, Magam, alleging that an unknown person fraudulently obtained his ATM card on the pretext of helping him withdraw cash. The accused allegedly exchanged the victim’s card at a Jammu and Kashmir Bank ATM at the main branch in Magam and later withdrew money using the swapped card.
Police said a case under FIR number 01 2026 was registered under relevant sections of law and an investigation was launched. A special police team was subsequently constituted, which carried out technical analysis and other investigative steps to trace the suspect.
The accused was apprehended from Baramulla district and has been identified as Abdul Nayeem Khan, son of Jalal ud Din Khan, a resident of Drangbal, Baramulla. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused is linked to similar incidents.
Police said they remain committed to acting firmly against financial crimes and urged the public to remain vigilant while using ATMs.
