JK News Analysis

At a time when the world order is changing rapidly, Pakistan army and its current chief Asim Munir are living in proverbial fools’ paradise .They feel that Kashmir is up for grabbing. This is sheer lack of in understanding of the situation in South Asia. But what cannot be ignored is that the Pakistani designs to cause disturbances in J&K are real and that too at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is all set to host all-important annual Amarnath Yatra.

Asim Munir, yet again on Saturday reiterated his support to the terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir, and defended terrorism in absolute terms. This may sound absurd. But the design working behind this theory is sinister, to say the least.

Pakistan army chief, during his address at the Naval Academy on Saturday made, or repeated critical points vis-a-vis Kashmir. He said, what India describes as “terrorism” is a “legitimate struggle of Kashmiris.” He did not stop there. He went on to reassert what he had been saying all along, “Pakistan will continue providing political and diplomatic support to Kashmiri people.”

He said: “What India tends to term as terrorism is in fact the legitimate struggle as per the international conventions. Those who endeavoured to subdue the will of Kashmiri people and sought conflict elimination instead of resolution have made it more relevant and pronounced their own actions.”

Asim Munir went on to mislead the people in Kashmir by claiming: “We stand firm with the Kashmiri people for their right of self-determination for the resolution of the internationally recognised long-pending dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.” He insisted that, “regional peace will remain elusive and there would be, what he called perpetual danger of conflict in South Asia without “the just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.”

The speech was a loud echo of what he had stated at overseas Pakistanis’ Convention in Islamabad on April 15, wherein he had demonized Hindus and referred to Muslims as a separate nation and a superior race. And, exactly a week later – April 22nd – Pakistani backed terrorists shot dead 25 tourists after their religion was ascertained, and a local Kashmiri Muslim who struggled to save the tourists.

Contrary to expectations that Operation Sindoor, the Indian military action against terrorists and their bases in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir to unleash punishment on those backing terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, especially with the immediate reference to Pahalgam attack, would have a sobering effect, Pakistan army chief is threatening India and glorifying terrorists.

On his domestic turf, he was mocking the civilian political leadership , which has been making desperate pleas for talks with India to discuss all outstanding issues .Pakistan Prime Minister Sheba Sharif has been making this request at all forums within the country and outside of it .Now , his plea for “ meaningful dialogue ,” has been rendered by the army chief But that, now has been rendered meaningless as the real power holder Asim Munir is not only supporting and glorifying terrorists but also calling India as an “ aggressor.”

Going by the past experience of his April 15 speech which turned out to be a script for the April 22nd terror attack in Pahalgam, his speech on Saturday ( June 28, 2025) cannot be taken lightly, especially when Amarnath Yatra is about to get underway on July 3rd.

It calls for extra vigil.
