There could be three reasons that made Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir threaten India with a nuclear war against India from the soil of the United States , where he is on an official visit for a second time in less than three months time. He boasted that Pakistan will use its nuclear missiles to smash everything if India happened to construct a dam on the Indus River.
First , it is sheer frustration that made him to go in for these delusional expressions . Pakistan suffered huge losses in terms of its terror and military assets during the first four days of Operation Sindoor . The frustration was not only in terms of the physical losses , but also a sense of defeat that was inflicted by the Kashmiri Muslims by rising up in arms against Pakistan’s terror activities after the gruesome mass killings in the serene Valley of Pahalgam – 26 innocent civilians , mostly tourists were shot dead by Pakistani terrorists.
Second , no matter that he promoted himself as Field Marshal, but the reality of Pakistan is known to Asim Munir that Pakistan is thriving on doles and loans. Common people are starving and the acts of terror are on rise and the security forces are unable to check the menace . People are frustrated . He might be selling his thesis that “ Pakistan won war against India” in May , but the fact remains that the claim is hollow. This has made the world to contrast w this illusion of Pakistan with the reality on the ground – Pakistan is loser all the way..
Third, of course, as everyone has concluded it correctly, is that Pakistan’s army chief whom President Trump hosted for lunch in White House on June 18th is a belief that the American administration is supportive of Pakistan against its arch rival India.. Pakistan’s assumption is based on two things that it accepted Trump had mediated and effected ceasefire between India and Pakistan on May 10th. This helps Pakistan hide that it had requested India for the ceasefire through its DGMO , and at the same time buttress the ego of the US President . Trump loves to hear echo of his words and Pakistan did that exactly. He was pleased.
Then , it was Pakistan which floated the idea of Nobel Peace Prize for Trump, pleasing him no end . It has been rewarded with Oil deal, resumption of funds and other favours and so on. Much more than that Trump has been making all attempts to squeeze India by imposing extraordinary high tariffs – 50 percent , 25 percent of which have already come into effect , the other 25 per cent are supposed to take effect on August 27. Any anti-India act goes in favour of Pakistan . Now it is established that the US is going out of way to help Pakistan to acquire the minerals and strategic locations for its geopolitical goals . The US- Pakistan relations are progressing well.
Pakistan is taking advantage of it . Asim Munir could not have even thought of hurling nuclear war threat at India had he not received a green signal from the US. There is a big game at play in the US-Pakistan axis . India should understand it and declare it clearly that enough is enough.
The Indian External Affairs Ministry has dwelt at length on the issue . It could have stated more. But it is always better to keep some diplomatic ammunition in reserve . But the ball is in the court of the United States. It cannot have cake and eat it too. It cannot claim to be the world peace maker and then allow its soil to be used by Pakistan to hurl threat on India . The US needs to make its stand clear.
