Jammu, Feb 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that tourist destinations closed after the terror attack at Baisaran in Pahalgam will reopen by May.
Replying to a discussion in the Assembly on grants for departments under his charge, the Chief Minister assured members that the government is actively working to restart tourism in the affected areas. He said discussions have already taken place between the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and the Government of India regarding the matter.
Several tourist spots were closed as a precautionary step following the Pahalgam attack. Abdullah said that while a few destinations remain shut due to reasons best known to the Central Government, efforts are being made in coordination with it to ensure reopening.
He expressed confidence that all such destinations would be thrown open to the public before the start of the peak summer season, bringing relief to people dependent on tourism for their livelihood.
