Srinagar, Mar 11: Bharti Airtel, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, on Monday announced the expansion of its network to Marwah, a geographically remote region linking Kishtwar and Anantnag districts in Jammu and Kashmir.

With this rollout, Airtel said it has become the first service provider to offer mobile connectivity in the strategically significant and difficult-to-access area.

Marwah is known for its rugged terrain and limited road connectivity, with access to Kishtwar and Anantnag often disrupted during winters due to heavy snowfall. The region remains cut off for months, forcing residents to rely on foot travel or mules for essential supplies, work and medical emergencies.

The absence of telecom services had left nearly a 150-km corridor without reliable communication facilities.

Airtel said its network rollout aims to bridge this connectivity gap by providing mobile services to residents, security personnel and visitors in the area.

“We are proud to bridge the digital divide in Marwah by bringing high-speed mobile connectivity to a region long isolated by challenging terrain,” said Dibyendu Aich, Chief Operating Officer – Jammu and Kashmir, Bharti Airtel.

He said the expansion into high-altitude and remote areas reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening digital connectivity and ensuring access to communication services even in difficult terrains.
