Srinagar: In a move to draw the government’s attention to a long-pending demand, the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Thursday organized a signature campaign near Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara, demanding the establishment of a full-fledged District Hospital in the town.
Led by AIP District Secretary Dr. Firdous Baba alongside senior leaders Mir Naseer Dardpori, Mir Ashraf, and Haji Showkat Khan, the campaign drew attention to the long-standing healthcare gap in the region. Kupwara, the campaign organisers’ said, remains the only district headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir without a District Hospital, despite its vast population and challenging geography.
While speaking to Alfaaz – The Words, AIP District Secretary Dr. Firdous Baba highlighted several key concerns. “Kupwara comprises seven medical blocks, and SDH Kupwara alone handles an overwhelming 1,500 to 2,000 outpatient visits daily,” Baba said, adding “The hospital also serves patients from far-flung and difficult-to-reach areas such as Karnah, Machil, Keran, and Jumagund.”
The party leaders emphasized that the absence of a District Hospital has put immense pressure on existing healthcare infrastructure, often compromising the quality of patient care.
The signature campaign, according to AIP leaders, is aimed at mobilizing public support and compelling authorities to address this critical healthcare need without further delay.
The party delegation later on submitted a memorandum to newly posted Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Balasaheb Suse urging to expedite the allocation of District Hospital at the district headquarters.
