Srinagar: The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Saturday launched a blistering attack on the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government, accusing it of “wasting an entire year in office without delivering any tangible results” and failing to address Jammu and Kashmir’s core political and governance issues.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, AIP spokesperson Inam-ul-Haq, as per Alfaaz – The Words, said that the present dispensation has “lost its way within its first year,” relying more on optics than on substance. “The Omar Abdullah government came to power promising to restore Statehood, ensure justice, and revive the democratic spirit of J&K. A year later, none of these promises stand fulfilled. Governance remains absent, and public grievances unaddressed,” he said.
He accused the Chief Minister of maintaining deliberate silence on vital public issues, including prolonged detentions and the continued use of the Public Safety Act (PSA). “Not once has the Chief Minister convened an all-party meeting or raised the question of hundreds of youth still imprisoned. His government’s indifference is its biggest failure,” Inam added.
The AIP spokesperson said that the first year of the current administration has exposed “a complete disconnect between the rulers and the public.” “People are fast losing faith in this government. Despite tall claims of change, everyday realities remain the same as unemployment, misgovernance, and repression persist,” he remarked.
The party in the meantime also announced that former District Development Council (DDC) Chairman Nazir Ahmad Khan will contest the upcoming bypolls from the Budgam constituency.
Reaffirming its resolve, the AIP said it will continue to “act as the voice of the people” and hold the government accountable for every unkept promise and every act of indifference.
