Aga Muntazir Mehdi Calls for Fair Enforcement of Model Code of Conduct

SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Advocate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi Al-Mousavi on Tuesday urged the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) authorities to ensure transparency and fair practices during the ongoing election campaign.

Addressing a press conference, Aga Muntazir Mehdi said that all contesting candidates must be given equal opportunities to reach out to voters. He expressed concern over what he termed “selective enforcement” of the MCC and called upon the Election Commission to take necessary measures to uphold the sanctity of democratic principles.

He stressed that a level playing field is essential for a credible election process and requested the authorities to prevent the misuse of government machinery for electoral gains. “The Model Code of Conduct should be implemented in letter and spirit, without bias or favour,” he said.

Earlier, the Office of the Nodal Officer for MCC in Budgam issued a Show Cause Notice to HIM for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct. He is accused of conducting late-night political rallies and campaign activities in different areas of the constituency on November 1 and November 3, 2025, without obtaining the requisite permission from the competent authorities.

The PDP candidate reiterated his party’s commitment to democratic norms and peaceful campaigning, urging the people to participate actively in the election process.
