SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley experienced a drop in night temperatures along with moderate to heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours, providing much-needed relief from the recent spell of summer heat, according to data compiled by Kashmir Weather.

Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded a minimum temperature of 19.0°C last night, a significant 4.5°C drop from the previous night’s 23.5°C, and well below the record-high minimum of 25.2°C logged just days ago.

Other parts of the Valley witnessed similar dips. Qazigund cooled to 18.6°C from 21.4°C, Pahalgam dropped to 14.2°C from 17.0°C, and Gulmarg, the famed ski resort, recorded a low of 13.5°C, down from 15.5°C.

Kupwara also saw a dip from 21.0°C to 18.2°C, and Kokernag settled at 18.2°C, slightly cooler than its previous 19.2°C.

The cooling trend coincided with rainfall across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar city received 31.3 mm of rain, while Wular Lake recorded the highest at 32.5 mm. Sonamarg, the gateway to Ladakh and a major Amarnath Yatra route, logged 21.5 mm, while Khudwani received 25.5 mm.

Other notable rainfall figures from the Kashmir region include Budgam and Baramulla (10.0 mm each), Pampore (2.1 mm), Srinagar Airport (16.4 mm), and Ganderbal (1.0 mm).

In the Jammu region, Katra saw the heaviest rainfall at 45.2 mm, followed by Rajouri with 47.2 mm, Jammu city with 39.4 mm, and Udhampur with 19.4 mm.

Forecasts indicate that cooler nights and moderate daytime temperatures will likely persist across the region over the coming days, with further light rainfall expected in some parts.
